I hope you followed the amazing Artemis 2 (was there an Artemis 1?) moon mission as it zoomed across the vast areas of space between us and the Moon.
Considering this was the first manned mission to the moon since 1972, it’s a pretty amazing break in something that we can only now consider an incredible achievement at the time.
How on earth did they manage to get 6 manned space missions to the lunar surface in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s? It is really a jaw dropping feat, given how the level of technology at that time was so basic compared to what we have now.
Of course there are still folks out there who believe that the whole moon landing story was a gigantic hoax, engineered by the faceless US Government to fool everyone and to convince the Soviet Union that the United States had won the space race.
But let’s use a bit of logical thinking here and look at some deductions we can make:
1. Does anyone seriously believe that if a giant hoax was carried out, that someone, somewhere didn’t decide to leak those details?
2. The moon missions that landed on the moon left a whole lot of gadgetry and mementos at their landing spots, which can still be detected sitting there, using high powered telescopes and sensing equipment.
3. The Soviet Union were closely monitoring everything that the United States moon missions were doing in an effort to assess whether they were losing the space race. If it was all a hoax, I’m pretty sure the Soviets would have been the first to know and would have told everyone.
4. The lunar missions were all put on hold in the early 1970’s as the escalating costs associated with sending humans to the moon began to increase out of all control, plus the United States was busy spending all it’s hard earned money on a certain war going on in Vietnam. Ironically much the same is happening now so how long this current lunar mission initiative stays afloat is yet to be seen.
All in all, I believe you would have to be a few sandwiches short of a picnic if you continued to believe the “hoax” concept, but interestingly enough they exist. For me, the thing that is hard to believe is back at the starting point of this, around the capability of engineers and scientists, probably all long since retired or passed away, to achieve what they did in the late 60’s and early 70’s. I have read that the computing power carried on those lunar spacecraft could all be crammed into a smartphone in 2026.
If you are going to believe anything about the Artemis missions, then believe that technology is now 54 years more advanced than the early 1970’s but the bravery and indominable spirit of humanity remains as strong as it was for the generations before us. So sit back and marvel at what those brave souls are doing and forget, for just a short time, about how we are making a huge effort to destroy our planet.
